@TechConnectify Watched this video through #invidious because #YouTube managed to cripple #FreeTube ( a Free / #libre youtube app which does not have recommendation algorithm ) but the only live invidious instance was able to circumvent the issue and now it sort of works.
If Technology Connections will start a #PeerTube I would be so happy.
Weil ich letzthin eine Diskussion führte, wo es um #invidious ging, möchte ich gerne diesen Artikel teilen. Eine Zeit lang hatte ich unter #yunohost selber eine Invidious-Instanz am laufen, allerdings wurde das immer holpriger und am Schluss ging dort gar nichts mehr, weil #YouTube ständig Katz und Maus spielt mit den alternativen Frontends. #FreeTube habe ich unter Linux installiert und es läuft einwandfrei. Auf dem Handy nutze ich #NewPipe.

Ditching Google for search and email is great, but their surveillance advertising infrastructure is how they really monetise us. Something like #AdGuardHome is great way to #degoogle and reduce their ad based revenue.
I also know some computer networking stuffs but meh. It was a setup and forget kind of thing. Updating systems from time to time and disabling #ssh when it isn't necessary. Plus #usbguard I guess. I've hosted my #searxng, #libreddit, #invidious, and #nitter instance locally on the home network but meh. Got too lazy, plus it was expensive to have a server running 24/7. I don't pay the bills.

Currently I'm failing with #invidious. Did steps described in here https://docs.invidious.io/installation/.
Invidious container is restarting every few seconds.
By running docker logs <id> I see:
Unhandled exception: Hostname lookup for inv_sig_helper failed: Try again (Socket::Addrinfo::Error)

Now might be good time to repost my article about how to watch #Youtube without ads on Apple TV.
People seems to be more concerned about ads and tracking and big tech companies collecting and selling your data. You can watch Youtube videos without tracking for example via #Invidious . There are other solutions as well, but this is the one I’m using. In the article I explain how I watch Youtube on my Apple TV by using Invidious and an app called #Yattee

YouTube is trying to block tools that are cleaning away adverts and stripping the tracking (imagine all the links from Fediversethat are directly youtube.com! 
tracking them)...
But I have 2 honest solutions:
A) Not watch as much 
AND use that time for other useful things
Point A explained more:
We had it too good with YouTube and it became another TV... so while its good I have all I need.
And this ties perfectly with making contact people instead for the real change eventually on Fediverse (not just users migrated from Twitter etc), so by not watching videos I can watch profiles instead as "the social project" and put it into practice DAILY which I feel people don't do / get distracted from giving each other real attention and instead watch Hollywood or other videos / politics)
b) I use savefrom.net/ to download video instead

Means I have to wait and not endlessly watch but when I'm sure I download it instead of stream and watch it 10 times instead of moving on quickly.
I make notes or smaller clips from videos like a mini project too getting the best out of each download like it's gold and I respect it took energy to get to me.

2/ I accept that in the end the other service providers / companies providing the service / YouTube / websites will always win or put more cleverness leverage to make it less worth my while
But God knows I have enough videos on my hard disk so I need less YouTube!!
And probably should start creating my own stuff ALSO!
If you can reduce Google YouTube usage then more power to you...

#Invidious und #Piped kann man vergessen. Früher waren sie mal ganz nützlich und ich bin dankbar, dass sie entwickelt wurden. Aber Google wehrt sich stark gegen diese alternativen Frontends. Machmal werden sie angepasst, sodass sie funktionieren, aber dann ändert Google wieder etwas und nichts geht mehr. Es ist ein Katz-und-Maus-Spiel, das Google gewinnen wird, weil es die Regeln festlegen kann.
Langfristig hilft es nur, mehr Contentersteller.innen zu PeerTube zu bewegen und mehr Menschen auf darauf aufmerksam zu machen. Dann werden solche Hilfsmittel wie Invidious nicht mehr benötigt, weil genug Content auf PeerTube vorhanden ist und Menschen weniger abhängig von Google sind.
Ob das klappen wird, werden wir noch sehen :)
Hey #fedibubble, ich würde ja gern mehr #Videos via #Peertube, #Invidious etc teilen statt #Youtube, um Menschen vom Fediverse zu überzeugen, aber in 90% der Fälle kriege ich Fehlermeldungen wie content not available, Wechsle die Instanz, try later. Wer weiß, woran das liegt und wie es behoben werden kann?
