@MsDropbear42@infosec.Sometimes, i really wish i was the kind of person who could just simply use **ONLY ONE** #browser ootb, without customising it aesthetically, & augmenting it with extensions / add-ons / mods to compensate for important missing functionality.

Sadly, i'm not that kind of person.

Being conscious about digital security, considering the internet we have nowadays, isn’t easy. Today, tracking and surveillance occur by default. MacOS has some good browser options that respect your privacy.

@jon My story is that in the early 2000's I was very torn between Internet Explorer, #Firefox and #Opera. I was constantly trying out new browsers.

Opera, however, was the browser that offered the most extensive options for customizing the browser to your own needs, at that time without any interface for add-ons. And that with strong competition like Firefox, which offered an interface for add-ons.

When the big change came after version 12 of the Opera browser, I had to take the difficult path, as there was no real alternative. I don't like to think back to that time.

When Vivaldi then developed a new browser under the direction of Jon von Tetzchner with many former Opera Software employees, I immediately realized that something really big was going to happen and that there would finally be a great alternative on the browser market again.

Without further ado, I have been using Vivaldi every day since the first technical preview (TP1) and would never want to use any other browser again. Having followed the development of Vivaldi since the (official) beginning, it's like watching a child grow up.

Vivaldi is my constant companion, both privately and professionally. Especially in the professional environment, Vivaldi offers me great opportunities to optimize my #workflow.

@surfhosting Well that's just big tech creating their somewhat closed ecosystems to lock you in with convenience. Google also hides that you need an extra app on the desktop to access their service, which is the #browser.

Speaking of #browsers the fantastic #Vivaldi browser has a calendar/tasks app built in (desktop version). Do check it out. To sync tasks with your mobile devices, you still need the DAVx5 plus something else setup, as their mobile app does not have the calendar/tasks built in. I run Vivaldi on the desktop and my devices, and on the phone I use DAVx5 plus #DigiCal for events plus the wonderful #jtxboard for tasks.

Note that Vivaldi on the desktop allows you to have tasks that are only local on that machine without syncing to some server.

Clicking links or pressing play in an embedded media or video player can run scripts in your browser, even on sites like your local instance which would not normally run scripts that are as particularly invasive. Those scripts may continue to run in the background of your instance-experience without your knowledge, long after the video or media has finished playing, been closed out, and forgotten. If you keep that same tab open, the scripts can accumulate over time. And that is without actually clicking on embedded youtube links or the obviously sketchy ones.

Sometimes I will be lazy and boost pictures that are nice, that may have questionable links associated with the post. I do not want to vouchsafe links, generally. Good luck!
