Red Gem in the Grass
The grass is turning green, and the vibrant red plumage of this northern cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) stands out beautifully against the lush backdrop.

Good morning.

Isn’t it fascinating how humans have a natural talent for aiming and throwing? Of course, some people are better at it than others. I can sit here at my desk and effortlessly toss a piece of paper into my wastepaper basket—and I usually make it in. Did I play basketball, you ask? Well, I did as a child, but my skills were never refined enough to leave even the smallest mark on the sport. My granddaughter, on the other hand, plays on her college team as a three-point specialist. Just think about the incredible skills that takes—gauging distance and location, then applying just the right amount of force at the perfect angle to send the ball soaring through the hoop.

Vivid Visitor
This is a striking image of a male, red-bellied woodpecker (Melanerpes carolinus) grabbing a peanut from a bird feeder. I frequently share images of these woodpeckers simply because they are regular visitors here.

Art of Flight
I captured this image of a neotropic cormorant (Nannopterum brasilianum) while crossing the Calcasieu Ship Channel in Louisiana. The bird was passing the ferry at just the right moment, allowing me to take some quality photographs.
The photographs I share here don’t appear as vivid as they do in my Pixel’s gallery. To make them load more easily, I reduce their size and slightly lower their quality. Take a look:

Goldfinch Moon
During one of our morning walks, a couple of years ago, I happened to glance south and spotted a goldfinch (Spinus tristis) beautifully framed by the soft glow of the morning moon. While the shot wasn’t perfect, moments like this—a goldfinch poised against such a celestial backdrop—don’t come around often. It was a rare and memorable chance to capture nature’s elegance.

I promised you some photos of our cameras. This is our Yashica D. This camera is actively used by my buddy. Mom bought it for him because he was bored when he went shooting with her. It's not easy to use TLR cameras; the chicken comes snowly, so my buddy spends more time photographing than complaining. Mostly loaded with Kodak Portra 400

Yellow Elegance in the Wild
Easter is approaching, and the yellow peeps (spongia lutea) seem to be nesting in the trees. Or perhaps it’s actually a pine warbler (Setophaga pinus); from this angle, it’s hard to tell.

Good morning, friends.
6 April 2025
It stormed throughout the night, and the electricity went out early yesterday evening. Thankfully, we're running on generator power, so we still have all our usual home amenities. However, there's no Estimated Time of Restoration (ETR) yet, which is frustrating since knowing it would help me decide whether to shut the generator down for maintenance. Can we expect power restoration sooner or later? Our area is part of a "grid pocket" of about 50 homes that seem to lose power frequently. That said, we really can't complain—this morning, I read about the devastating floods and tornadoes wreaking havoc just a little farther north. I can't help but wonder: does FEMA still work?
