Good news, everyone! (I think.)

It appears that sepiasearch.org/ is how you search for videos on Peertube.

Why it took me two hours to find a link to it in a 4 year old comment on reddit, I can't quite comprehend. I feel a site like this should be the number 1 thing that anyone should get to see when searching how to use Peertube.

If there is some other site that is better for this purpose, please let us know.

je recherche des vidéos pour utilisation par nos membres (pas techniques)

Sur #SepiaSearch, j'ai surtout vu des vidéos sur les concepts.

À priori, l'appli n'est pas dans la doc : docs.framasoft.org/fr/

Peut-être faut-il leur proposer des vidéos de @nextcloud

YouTube is trying to block tools that are cleaning away adverts and stripping the tracking (imagine all the links from Fediversethat are directly youtube.com! :blobcatshocked: tracking them)...

But I have 2 honest solutions:

➡️ A) Not watch as much ✔️
AND use that time for other useful things ✔️✔️

We had it too good with YouTube and it became another TV... so while its good I have all I need.

And this ties perfectly with making contact people instead for the real change eventually on Fediverse (not just users migrated from Twitter etc), so by not watching videos I can watch profiles instead as "the social project" and put it into practice DAILY which I feel people don't do / get distracted from giving each other real attention and instead watch Hollywood or other videos / politics)

Means I have to wait and not endlessly watch but when I'm sure I download it instead of stream and watch it 10 times instead of moving on quickly.

I make notes or smaller clips from videos like a mini project too getting the best out of each download like it's gold and I respect it took energy to get to me.

But God knows I have enough videos on my hard disk so I need less YouTube!! ✔️✔️

Wenn ja: vielleicht ist es für den einen oder die andere eine interessante Option, dass Eure Inhalte von #Youtube quasi fast mit ohne Mehraufwand auch auf #Peertube veröffentlicht werden können 📺+📺

At least 21k views should be a realistic goal for someone to beat on PeerTube I'm assuming.

On Firefox you can create a "keyword search" for videos by right-clicking the search bar. You'll want to edit the bookmark to change to search string to: https://sepiasearch.org/search?search=%s&&sort=-createdAt which gives you a full PeerTube search just a few keypresses away.
Amazing for discovering new people who self-host.

@lightweight [mastodon.nzoss.nz] @KennetMattfolk [mastodon.social] Invidious is a wrapper for YT, and certainly a more hygienic way to view YT videos. More convenient, too. Playback settings are sticky, not bouncy, even without logging in. The video component of the Fediverse is #PeerTube. It is in something of a larval stage. Like DIY and open source communications in general, it's not particularly monetization friendly, so don't expect the slick professional production values of the slick professionals. The closest thing to a search over PeerTube instances would be #SepiaSearch, which is particularly larval and not very gratifying, but no-nonsense interfaces like "simply download this" are hella refreshing.

Today in #MatrixRooms: Searching #Matrix rooms from multiple places, just like with #SepiaSearch or #LemmyVerse.

Detailed instructions can be found in the alt text. In short, for #Element and #SchildiChat Web/Desktop user:
0. Open search in Element (Ctrl+K)
1. In the "Show" dropdown menu, press "Add new server...". Type matrixrooms.info and proceed.
2. Pick newly added rooms directory.

More on how to make this work in mobile apps, let all users of your instance benefit from this rooms directory or set this up as a search engine on your very own #SearXNG:

In Element app, there is such thing as room search. Invoke search by pressing button on the top left or Ctrl+K. Then type anything and pick "Public rooms" or whatever. Locate the dropdown menu for "Show: Matrix rooms (*)". You will see multiple pre-defined room directories like your homeserver, matrix.org, etc. Press "Add new server..." and proceed by typing "matrixrooms.info". It will create an entry on your account that you use this as a room directory for search. It should now appear wherever you go under the same "Show" dropdown menu. Don't forget to pick matrixrooms.info room directory. Now Element will search for any rooms that this server knows of.
